We ran 1,000+ queries through ChatGPT asking for "best [category] tools" and tracked what gets recommended. The results are fascinating. and reveal exactly what makes AI pick one brand over another.

The Data

In 20 different software categories, we asked ChatGPT "What are the best [category] tools?" and recorded every brand mentioned. Here's what we found:

• Only 3-5 brandsget mentioned in each category (the rest are invisible)
• 84%of recommendations go to just 3 tools
• The #1 positiongets recommended 4x more than #2
• Newer tools(2024+) are recommended more than established players

Why Some Tools Dominate

We analyzed why certain tools get AI recommendations and found 5 patterns:

1. Clear positioning, AI can explain what they do in one sentence
2. Comparison content, They have "X vs Y" pages that AI loves to cite
3. Recent updates, Fresh content signals current relevance
